Not Your Average Black Woman

Supposedly I am a cynic, but in reality I am a pretty chill gal. I dig indie alternative/soul/hip-hop, films, pop culture, novels, newspapers, geek things, sex, witty conversations, and the list goes on. I'm always told I'm not your average black girl, and I'm not sure if I should be offended or actually flattered.

My name's Bianca, a 22 year-old Purchase College graduate. A journalist in the making, and a poet at night.

NBC LA: A gunman killed six people and injured another five before being shot and killed by police during a rampage that ended on the Santa Monica College in California.

Grim news from Syria, as seen on the Times and The Huffington Post this am, per Reuters: “At least 65 people, apparently shot in the head, were found dead with their hands bound in a district of the northern Syrian city of Aleppo on Tuesday, a pro-opposition monitoring group said.” It’s unclear as to who did it, or why they were shot.

Reuters: An early morning fire at a nightclub in southern Brazil has killed at least 245 people.

A performing band’s pyrotechnics display set the building on fire and the ensuing panic made it difficult for the estimated 500 people inside at the time to find the club’s exits.

At least one of the club’s exits was blocked, causing many to die from smoke asphyxiation.
